The New York Jets’ 2024 season started with Super Bowl aspirations but quickly turned sour. At 2-5, are the playoffs already out of reach for Aaron Rodgers and company?
The Jets entered the 2024 season with high expectations after acquiring Aaron Rodgers, hoping to replicate the success Tom Brady brought to Tampa Bay. However, a 2-5 start has left the team and its fans reeling. Despite significant mid-season changes, including the acquisition of Haasan Reddick, Davante Adams finding his form, and a coaching change, the Jets continue to struggle.

Dan Orlovsky Declares the Jets’ Season Over
Former Detroit Lions quarterback and ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky, a one-time NFC North rival of Rodgers, recently declared the Jets’ season over on ESPN’s “Get Up.” Despite initially believing in Rodgers and the Jets, Orlovsky stated that the team’s fundamental flaws are too significant to overcome. He cited the Jets’ Week 7 loss as a turning point, expressing doubt that the team can fix its issues and make a playoff push.
A Deeper Dive into the Jets’ Struggles
While the Jets’ offense ranks 11th in passing, their overall performance has been underwhelming. A major weakness lies in their rushing attack, which ranks a dismal 31st in the league. This over-reliance on Rodgers’ arm has led to turnovers, with the 40-year-old quarterback throwing seven interceptions, five of which came in October.

Defensive Strengths Masked by Offensive Woes
Despite the Jets’ offensive struggles, their defense ranks a respectable sixth in the league, according to ESPN analytics. However, a strong defense alone is not enough to carry a team to the playoffs. The lack of a balanced offensive attack, coupled with costly turnovers, has negated the defensive efforts.
Can the Jets Salvage Their Season?
The Jets face an uphill battle to turn their season around. While a playoff berth seems unlikely, achieving a winning record would be a significant accomplishment. To do so, the Jets must address their offensive shortcomings, particularly their anemic running game. Reducing turnovers and establishing a more balanced attack will be crucial for any chance of success. The question remains: can Rodgers and the Jets overcome their early season struggles and salvage a respectable finish?
