Scott Wolf, known for his role as Dr. Louis “Lou” Malick on the new Fox medical drama “Doc,” recently shared a humorous anecdote about his family’s experience with a mysterious virus. Despite playing a chief of internal medicine on television, his wife, Kelley, was not receptive to his medical advice when she and their daughter fell ill.
During a January 6th appearance on “Live with Kelly and Mark,” Wolf recounted the incident, explaining that his family had been “stricken by some kind of virus.” His daughter was experiencing the most severe symptoms, followed by his wife. “There’s some mysterious symptoms. There’s some weird things. And I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV,” Wolf joked. Mark Consuelos playfully pointed out Wolf’s history of portraying medical professionals on shows like “Everwood” and “The Night Shift,” adding, “You are basically a doctor at this point.” Kelly Ripa echoed the sentiment.

Wolf then revealed his attempt to offer medical counsel to his ailing wife. “So last night I was talking to my wife — and my daughter’s miserable, my wife’s kind of miserable — and I’m like, ‘Listen honey, I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV,'” he explained, imitating his delivery of the famous catchphrase. To his amusement, and likely frustration, “she hung up the phone. She hung up.”
When pressed by Ripa for details about the symptoms, Wolf described his daughter’s as “a little more normal stuff, like tummy stuff,” while his wife had developed “some things on her hands, like a couple of blisters.” He attributed the timing of their illness to his absence, stating, “It’s always when I’m away that these things happen.” He reassured everyone, however, that he was “not contagious anymore.”

Ripa jokingly questioned his self-proclaimed medical expertise, asking, “Is that your expert medical opinion?” Wolf playfully responded, affirming his faux-physician status while acknowledging his wife’s predicament. “Yes! I’m not a doctor, but I play one on TV. But whenever I go away, Murphy’s Law is like these things strike when I’m not there to help. And it’s frustrating and it’s hard for her!” Despite the lighthearted ribbing, Wolf expressed his admiration for his wife, calling her “the love of my life, the smartest person in any room I’ve ever been.”
He also announced their upcoming podcast, “Raised by Wolfs,” slated for release within the next month. He teased the podcast as “kind of the conversation you didn’t know you needed to have.” “Doc,” starring Scott Wolf as Dr. Lou Malick, premiered on Fox on Tuesday, January 7th, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
