Adam Devine’s Superhero Body Transformation: Ready for Marvel or DC Call

Adam Devine, the 41-year-old actor and comedian, is on a mission to achieve superhero shape. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE, Devine jokingly revealed that his recent weight loss journey is fueled by aspirations of joining the ranks of Marvel or DC superheroes.

Devine emphasized his commitment to maintaining a healthy lifestyle, stating, “I feel like this year, I’m in such a good rhythm with this that I just want to stay on it. And for me, I like where I’m at.” His goal isn’t to become extremely lean, but rather to be prepared for a potential call from a major comic book franchise.

“I’m not trying to get super lean,” he clarified. “I just want to be in a place where if Marvel calls, I can answer.” He further added, “If my phone rings and it’s James Gunn saying, ‘Hey, we’re ready to bring you into the DC universe,’ I could say, ‘Hey, give me a couple of months, and I’ll be there.’ ” Devine, who has partnered with the health and fitness app MyFitnessPal, is clearly taking his superhero aspirations seriously.

Devine’s weight loss journey began after experiencing significant weight gain during his wife Chloe Bridges’ pregnancy with their son, Beau, born in February 2024. He candidly admitted to gaining “sympathy weight,” also known as Couvade syndrome, a phenomenon where expectant fathers experience weight gain and other pregnancy-related symptoms alongside their partners.

“It was a real thing for me,” Devine shared. “I just ballooned up, and I felt like I didn’t look like myself. I’d look in the mirror, and it was like I was a cartoon version of myself.” He humorously recounted gaining more weight than Bridges, revealing, “Chloe, she was eating for two and building a human child. I wasn’t building a human child, but it looked like I was. I gained more weight than she did — [I gained 28 pounds], I think she gained, like, 26 pounds.”

The experience of gaining weight during his wife’s pregnancy served as a catalyst for change. “I just wanted to get back to feeling like me again,” Devine explained. He acknowledged that while he had always maintained a relatively healthy lifestyle, he needed to adjust his eating habits and become more aware of his food choices.

“I’ve always eaten well, and I’ve always worked out, but it was just the amount I was eating and not knowing that certain things were bad for me,” he confessed. Devine’s journey highlights the importance of self-awareness and making conscious choices to achieve personal health and fitness goals. His dedication to transforming his physique not only reflects his commitment to his own well-being but also his ambition to potentially embody a superhero role on the big screen.
