Will Aerosmith Reunite? Tom Hamilton Hints at Future Possibilities

Bassist Tom Hamilton recently sparked hope for an Aerosmith reunion, offering an update on Steven Tyler’s vocal recovery and the band’s future plans. In a January 9th interview with WBUR, Hamilton suggested a potential reunion, while emphasizing Tyler’s healing process.

“Steven’s healing process is progressing remarkably well, however, it’s unfolding at its own pace,” the 73-year-old bassist explained. “Perhaps Aerosmith will embark on something in the future, but it remains a significant ‘if,’ and the last thing I intend to do is pressure Steven in that direction.” He further added, “If we undertake anything in the future, the impetus would originate from him.”

This glimmer of hope comes after Aerosmith announced their retirement from touring in August 2024. The decision followed Tyler’s larynx fracture sustained during a September 2023 performance, which led to multiple postponements of their farewell tour. The band had only completed three shows before the injury forced them to halt the tour.

In a heartfelt statement on Instagram, the band explained their decision. “As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument unlike any other. He has dedicated months of tireless effort to restoring his voice to its pre-injury condition. We’ve witnessed his struggle despite having the support of the best medical team. Unfortunately, it has become evident that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not feasible.”

The statement continued, “We have arrived at a heartbreaking and challenging, yet essential decision—as a band of brothers—to retire from the touring stage. We extend our immeasurable gratitude to everyone who eagerly anticipated joining us on the road one last time.” Aerosmith also expressed profound appreciation for their loyal fanbase, acknowledging the “Blue Army” who have fueled their five-decade career. “Some of you have been with us from the inception, and all of you are the reason we etched our names in rock ‘n’ roll history.”

In February 2024, Tyler’s daughter, Mia, shared that her father was “doing much better” but admitted he wasn’t strictly adhering to doctor’s orders regarding vocal rest. She humorously described having to “yell at him” to refrain from talking and stick to texting. “You can’t silence him—he simply can’t close that mouth,” she quipped, assuring fans that he remained “very healthy.”

While the future of Aerosmith remains uncertain, Hamilton’s comments suggest a potential reunion might be possible if Tyler’s recovery progresses and he feels ready to return to the stage. Fans worldwide eagerly await further news and hold onto the hope of witnessing the iconic rock band perform together again.
