Mandy Moore and Family Find Refuge at Hilary Duff’s Home After Devastating Wildfires

The recent Los Angeles wildfires have forced many families to evacuate their homes, including actress Mandy Moore and her family. They’ve found temporary housing with close friends Hilary Duff and her husband Matthew Koma after their Altadena home was impacted by the fire.

Moore’s brother-in-law, Griffin Goldsmith, shared the news on Instagram, expressing gratitude for Duff and Koma’s generosity. He revealed that not only are Duff and Koma providing shelter for Moore, her husband Taylor Goldsmith, and their three young children, but they also initiated a GoFundMe campaign to help the Goldsmith family rebuild. Griffin, a musician, also lost his own home in the fire, along with 20 years worth of musical equipment and irreplaceable memories.

“Our dear friends @matthewkoma and @hilaryduff thought it wise to set up a gofundme for us to help with everything moving forward,” Griffin wrote. “Not to mention they are currently housing my brother’s family. They’ve taken care of my entire family from the moment this began. I will never be able to thank them adequately.” He went on to describe Duff and Koma as “the most beautiful, selfless people we’ve ever known.”

Griffin’s wife, Kit, was in the final stages of preparing their nursery for their soon-to-arrive baby. He poignantly described the loss of their “paradise,” echoing the sentiment of many in the community who watched their homes and neighborhood transform into a “hellscape.” The GoFundMe campaign for the Goldsmiths has already surpassed $200,000 in donations, a testament to the community’s support.

Moore recently addressed critics on Instagram who questioned her family’s need for financial assistance. She clarified that they are supporting their family and emphasized that sharing the GoFundMe was a response to inquiries about how people could help. “Of course we are [helping],” she stated firmly. “Our buddy Matt started this GoFundMe and I’m sharing because people have asked how they can help them. We just lost most of our life in a fire too.” She concluded with a pointed message to critics: “Kindly F OFF. No one is forcing you to do anything.”

Moore previously shared heartbreaking footage of her fire-damaged home on Instagram, indicating that while the “main part of our house is still standing…It’s not livable.” The fire destroyed the studio where Taylor and Griffin Goldsmith created music, along with all their instruments and equipment. The garage and back house were also lost. The family is currently assessing the extent of the damage and determining their next steps. The wildfires continue to be a devastating event for many in the Los Angeles area, highlighting the importance of community support and resilience in the face of tragedy.
