“We’re thrilled with the way this home captured everyone’s attention and hearts due to its well-deserved place in cinematic history and the timeless holiday memories it evokes,” the agents stated.

The house’s significance stems from its role as the central location in the film, where 8-year-old Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, is accidentally left home alone during his family’s Christmas vacation.

Culkin, now 44, humorously admitted he considered buying the house “just for giggles,” envisioning it as a “movie fun house” for fans to recreate scenes.

The property boasts numerous amenities, including a fully equipped gym, a state-of-the-art movie theater, an indoor sports court with a 3-point line, and a heated three-car garage. McKenna described the house as a “rare legend that lives up to its hype,” possessing iconic status, modern amenities, and a prime location.

Laura Abendshien, a former resident during filming, shared her unique experience of living in the house for four to five months. To avoid appearing on camera, the family had to crawl between rooms along the window line. She remembered Culkin using her room for studying and his brother Kieran spending time there.

Abendshien acknowledged witnessing something special during filming but hadn’t anticipated the film’s massive success. The influx of visitors and cars after the movie’s release was initially surreal but became a shared experience of the movie’s magic.

Built in 1921, the 9,126 sq. ft. property sits behind a wrought-iron gate on a tree-lined street. Interestingly, the interior scenes weren’t filmed entirely in the house due to space constraints. A two-story soundstage was built in a nearby abandoned school.
