Cameron Diaz Reflects on Jamie Foxx’s Medical Emergency During “Back in Action” Filming

Cameron Diaz recently opened up about the terrifying medical emergency Jamie Foxx experienced while filming their Netflix action-comedy, “Back in Action.” The incident, a brain bleed leading to a stroke, occurred in April 2023 and deeply affected everyone involved in the production.

Diaz, speaking at the Berlin premiere of “Back in Action,” described the atmosphere on set following Foxx’s medical crisis. She emphasized the fear and concern shared by everyone who knew and loved Foxx. “For every person who knows Jamie, it was terrifying,” Diaz stated. She added, “For everybody who loves Jamie, the world, everybody was concerned. I can’t even imagine how he feels.”

Foxx, who recently released a Netflix comedy special, “What Had Happened Was…”, chronicling his experience, has been remarkably open about his recovery. Diaz expressed her admiration for Foxx’s bravery in sharing his story. She recounted a touching moment when Foxx, with characteristic humor, remarked on the widespread emotional response to his health scare: “You walk up to him and he’s like, ‘Everybody cries!'”

Foxx himself chimed in on the emotional aftermath, jokingly recalling, “For a while, everybody was crying. [Snoop] was crying! I was like, ‘Crips don’t cry, brother — c’mon!'” However, he shifted the focus to the present, expressing joy at being back at work and seeing audiences enjoy the film. “But now, it’s the joyous time and to be over here in Berlin and watch the movie play and people enjoying it,” Foxx shared.

He emphasized the significance of returning to his passion and the quality of their work: “I mean that’s what it’s about — being able to get back to what you do — and what we did do is really good.” This sentiment underscores Foxx’s dedication to his craft and his resilience in the face of adversity.

He revealed on “The Graham Norton Show” that he initially believed he was being pranked when informed of the 20 days he couldn’t remember. This coping mechanism, along with the support of loved ones, helped him navigate the challenging experience. “I knew I had to get back, and realized the way to do it was by being funny,” Foxx explained.
