A tragic incident unfolded in Chambers County, Alabama, claiming the life of a Georgia fire chief who stopped to assist a couple involved in a deer-related car accident. The seemingly random act of violence has left the community in shock and mourning.
A Good Samaritan’s Fateful Act of Kindness
On Sunday, January 19, 2025, Coweta County Battalion Fire Chief James Bartholomew Cauthen, 54, encountered a couple whose vehicle had struck a deer on County Road 267. In a selfless act of kindness, Chief Cauthen stopped to offer assistance. The remote location had poor cell service, making it difficult to call for help. Chief Cauthen and the driver decided to walk to a nearby residence to seek assistance.
