Pretty Woman star Richard Gere, 75, recently opened up about his fulfilling life in Spain with his wife, Alejandra Silva, 41, and their children. In an interview with Elle España, Gere expressed his newfound happiness since relocating to the country with Silva and their sons Alexander, 5, and James, 4, as well as Silva’s son Albert, 11, from a previous relationship.
“The truth is that you are seeing us in our momentum. We are happier than ever,” Gere shared. He emphasized the importance of his wife’s happiness to his own, stating, “If she is happy, I am happy.”
Gere, who met Silva in Italy in 2014 following his divorce from Carey Lowell, with whom he shares son Homer James, 24, highlighted their shared passion for environmental work as a cornerstone of their relationship. The couple has collaborated on various projects, including the Sierra a Mar project in Mexico, garnering recognition for their efforts.

Gere elaborated on the significance of their environmental work, explaining, “We can all minimize this sense of ego, of the self. And that’s when true change occurs.” He praised Silva’s “open-mindedness and her genuine sense of gratitude,” connecting their shared values to a deeper sense of purpose and spirituality.
Silva echoed Gere’s sentiments in her interview with Elle España, describing their connection as that of “soul mates.” She emphasized their shared values and worldview, stating, “We have the same values, we see the world in the same way and from the first moment we felt like we have known each other for a long time.” She attributed their bond to a connection forged in past lives.
Gere initially revealed his intentions to move to Spain in an April 2024 interview with Vanity Fair Spain. The move, he explained, was primarily motivated by a desire to allow Silva to be closer to her family and cultural roots. He emphasized the importance of reciprocating Silva’s generosity after she spent six years immersed in his world. “It is only fair that I give her at least another six living in hers,” he stated.
In a November 2024 appearance on the Today Show, Gere reiterated the reasons behind the move, highlighting the benefits for their bilingual children. The following month, the couple was photographed enjoying their new life in Madrid.
Gere, known for his iconic roles in films like American Gigolo and An Officer and a Gentleman, recently discussed his conscious decision to step back from the limelight in the 1990s during an episode of The Hollywood Reporter‘s Awards Chatter podcast. He explained his desire for a less public life, stating, “I said, ‘Enough. I don’t really like all this attention… I don’t wanna be looked at.'”
Despite this choice, Gere affirmed his commitment to his acting career, emphasizing that he made deliberate decisions to pursue smaller, more personal projects. “I made some choices — not that I’m ashamed of it — but there were choices not to be in the big game. They were to be in a smaller game.” He stands by his career path, finding contentment in his current life in Spain with his family.
