Baylen Dupree, diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome at 18, is constantly exploring new methods to manage her involuntary movements and vocalizations, known as tics. Four years later, she’s turning to Botox injections, a treatment that can weaken or paralyze muscles, potentially lessening the severity of her tics.
In an exclusive sneak peek of TLC’s “Baylen Out Loud,” Baylen prepares for her first Botox treatment. She expresses optimism about the procedure, stating, “I’m so excited to try Botox because it’s a treatment that is used for Tourette’s to help with facial tics.” She acknowledges taking medication to manage her anxiety before the appointment.

As a nurse practitioner reviews Baylen’s medical history, Baylen experiences a sudden vocal tic, directing an expletive towards a cameraman named JB. The moment leads to laughter, but Baylen repeats the outburst. Later, she explains the tic’s origin, connecting it to a brief viewing of a political debate and the name association with Joe Biden. She clarifies her affection for the crew member, stating, “I have nothing against any of the crew — I love JB!” Her mother, Julie, notes that Baylen’s “tics are a little bit over the top today.”

During the examination, Baylen indicates the areas on her face where she most frequently experiences tics. The nurse practitioner explains how Botox injections can relax specific muscles and potentially reduce tic severity. However, Baylen interrupts with another vocal tic, mentioning “Joe Biden’s vagina.” The practitioner continues, outlining how the treatment works. Baylen inquires about Botox in her jaw, describing a complex tic that affects her entire body. She expresses a desire to prevent further triggering of the tic.
The nurse practitioner describes Baylen’s tics as “very abrupt rigid movements that it’s almost like she’s concrete in them.” Before administering the injection, she instructs Baylen to raise her hand if she feels a tic coming on, ensuring the needle can be safely withdrawn. “Baylen Out Loud” airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on TLC.
