Prince William and Kate Middleton, accompanied by their two eldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, attended Easter Sunday services at St. George’s Chapel. The family looked picture-perfect in their springtime attire, with the children adorably matching their parents in shades of blue.

However, a significant absence was felt as Queen Elizabeth, the monarch and head of the Church of England, was unable to attend. The Queen, who turned 96 this week, has been mostly out of the public eye following a positive COVID-19 diagnosis in February.
While she continues to handle affairs of state virtually, her last public appearance was on March 29th at a service for her late husband, Prince Philip.
Adding to the list of absences were the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. The couple, who secretly met with the Queen last week, spent their Easter weekend in the Netherlands attending the Invictus Games. This marked their first public appearance in Europe since stepping down as senior royals.

Harry and Meghan kicked off the opening ceremonies of the Games with a heartwarming display of affection, sharing a kiss before addressing the crowd and honoring the athletes, particularly the team from war-torn Ukraine.
In her speech, Meghan praised the Ukrainian team, stating, “For each team, my husband and I both recognize it’s been a lot to get here, both physically and emotionally, not least of which for the Ukraine team, whom we are all standing with. Your bravery in choosing to come and for being here tonight cannot be overstated.”
The Invictus Games hold a special place in the couple’s hearts. Founded by Prince Harry in 2014, the Games provide a platform for injured service men and women to compete. Harry, who himself served two tours in Afghanistan, spoke passionately to young Dutch reporters about the significance of the Games and the legacy he hopes to leave for his children.
When asked about his wish for Archie and Lilibet, he replied, “To grow up in a better world, to grow up in a fairer world, a safer world, a more equal world.”
This year’s Games carry even more weight for the couple, as it was at the 2017 Invictus Games where they made their first public appearance as a couple.
The Queen’s absence from Easter celebrations comes amidst preparations for her Platinum Jubilee, a grand celebration marking her historic 70 years on the throne.
This significant milestone, coupled with her recent birthday, highlights the remarkable reign of Queen Elizabeth II. While her presence was missed at the Easter Sunday service, the royal family’s attendance, along with the inspiring display at the Invictus Games, made for a memorable Easter weekend.
