Rachel DelTondo, a 33-year-old teacher, was shot multiple times at close range in her parents’ driveway on Mother’s Day 2018. The case quickly went cold, becoming one of several unsolved murders in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania.

Five years later, Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier has announced Sheldon Jeter Jr. as the prime suspect in DelTondo’s murder. Jeter, a former student at the school where DelTondo taught, allegedly had a sexual relationship with her when he was 17 years old.
The relationship came to light after a police report surfaced detailing an incident where DelTondo and Jeter were found in a parked car late at night. The report, leaked anonymously, led to DelTondo’s suspension from her teaching job and caused a rift between her and her fiancé at the time, Frank Catropa.

DelTondo’s mother denies any inappropriate relationship between her daughter and Jeter, claiming the police report was inaccurate and written long after the alleged incident. However, Jeter’s attorney has confirmed the relationship, stating it was not a one-time occurrence.
The Night of the Murder and a Web of Connections
On the night of DelTondo’s murder, she was seen with friends at an ice cream shop, where they reportedly crossed paths with Jeter. Evidence suggests Jeter may have tracked DelTondo’s movements that night, texting his brother, who was also at the ice cream shop with DelTondo and her friend, Lauren Watkins.
Chillingly, DelTondo was gunned down just minutes after being dropped off at home by Watkins. While police investigated Jeter, collecting his clothing and examining his phone records, they were unable to place him at the scene of the crime.
Adding another layer to the story, two years after DelTondo’s murder, Jeter was convicted of first-degree murder in the shooting death of Tyric Pugh. Surveillance footage placed Jeter and Pugh leaving Jeter’s home together on the night of Pugh’s murder, and the murder weapon was later found in Jeter’s bedroom. Jeter is currently serving a life sentence for Pugh’s murder.
