A somber discovery shook the community of Hillsborough, North Carolina, as the bodies of two missing teenagers, Lyric Woods, 14, and Devin Clark, 18, were found following a chilling 911 call.
Woods and Clark were last seen alive on Friday, September 16th. Concern grew over the weekend when their families couldn’t reach them, leading to missing persons reports being filed. Then, on Sunday, September 18th, a chilling 911 call came in to Orange County dispatch. Two men riding ATVs in a remote area stumbled upon the teenagers’ bodies.
The 911 caller, clearly shaken, struggled to articulate the exact location but indicated it was near an area where the power company had been working. He described finding the bodies while preparing to leave the wooded area with his father.

Orange County Sheriff’s deputies quickly arrived at the scene and initiated an investigation. The victims were soon identified as Woods and Clark. After four days, a break in the case came when a juvenile petition was filed against a 17-year-old suspect. The charges: two counts of first-degree murder.
This case highlights a recent change in North Carolina law. Since 2019, 16 and 17-year-olds accused of crimes are no longer automatically charged as adults. For serious felonies, like first-degree murder, a district court judge must transfer the case to Superior Court. This typically occurs after a grand jury indictment or if the court finds probable cause.
The investigation is ongoing, and as of now, the suspect’s name has not been released. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone with information relevant to this case to contact Investigator Keith Goodwin at 919-245-2918.
