Former Danity Kane member, Dawn Richard, has filed a lawsuit against Sean “Diddy” Combs, accusing him of sexual assault and inhumane treatment during her time signed to his label, Bad Boy Records. The suit adds to a growing number of legal issues the hip-hop mogul is currently facing.
Richard, who first gained national attention as a contestant on Diddy’s MTV show “Making the Band,” alleges that Diddy’s contempt for women was evident from the start. She claims he verbally abused contestants, calling them derogatory names and making harsh comments about their physical appearances.
After forming Danity Kane, Richard states that the abuse continued. She details instances of being forced to work grueling hours, leading to weight loss, dehydration, and even rashes. The lawsuit alleges that Diddy deprived the group of basic necessities like food and sleep, using their need for career advancement as leverage.
The lawsuit further outlines disturbing encounters, including Diddy allegedly holding meetings in his underwear, making Richard feel violated and embarrassed. She also claims to have witnessed Diddy physically abusing his then-partner, Kim Porter, and later, his girlfriend, Cassie Ventura.
Richard recounts witnessing Diddy, allegedly high on drugs, physically assaulting Cassie on multiple occasions. She alleges seeing him choke Cassie, throw a hot pan of eggs at her, and drag her up the stairs. She claims to have been threatened by Diddy when she tried to intervene or speak out about the abuse.
These alleged incidents paint a dark picture of Diddy’s behavior and the environment Richard claims to have endured. She alleges that Diddy’s actions caused her emotional distress, PTSD, anxiety, and insomnia, leading to loss of income and career opportunities.
Richard is seeking compensatory and punitive damages, as well as attorney’s fees. Diddy’s attorney, Erica Wolf, has denied the allegations, stating that Richard is attempting to “rewrite history” for financial gain.
