Controversial influencer Andrew Tate appeared in a Romanian court to appeal his detention, more than a week after his arrest in a sex trafficking probe. Tate and his brother, Tristan, were arrested in late December following allegations of sex trafficking at Tate’s Romanian villa.

Romanian authorities allege that the brothers and two Romanian women organized a criminal group that spanned Romania, the UK, and the U.S. They claim the brothers subjected six women to physical and mental coercion after allegedly misleading the victims into “believing that they intended to enter into a marriage/cohabitation relationship.”
The court documents cite concerns that the Tate brothers might attempt to evade investigation, stating that “the possibility of them evading investigations cannot be ignored” and that they could “leave Romania and settle in countries that do not allow extradition.” A verdict from the court of appeals is expected soon.

This case has garnered significant attention due to Tate’s controversial online persona. A former kickboxer turned influencer, Tate boasts millions of followers on Twitter but has been removed from multiple social media platforms multiple times for promoting misogynistic views and hateful content.
Despite the ongoing legal proceedings, Tate’s Twitter account has remained active. In a video released prior to his arrest, titled “Andrew Tate’s Final Message,” Tate addressed the allegations, calling accusations of sex trafficking “racist” and denying any wrongdoing.
