A Georgia jury swiftly delivered a guilty verdict in a harrowing murder case that shocked the community. Gregory Deonte Norwood, a 29-year-old man, was convicted of brutally murdering Crystal Powell, the 31-year-old mother of his child, in front of their children and other young relatives.
The Horrific Crime and Overwhelming Evidence
The incident took place in April 2022 at Powell’s home in Monroe, Georgia. Norwood and Powell became embroiled in a heated argument, witnessed by Powell’s four children, including their infant daughter, as well as young cousins. The argument escalated to a terrifying climax outside the home, where Norwood stabbed Powell a chilling 14 times. As Norwood fled the scene with their baby daughter, Powell’s 11-year-old child bravely contacted emergency services.
The infant was later found safe with her grandmother in a nearby county, and Norwood was apprehended shortly after. Law enforcement discovered a damning piece of evidence: blood on Norwood’s shoes that was a DNA match to Powell.
A Defense Marred by Unbelievable Claims

His defense hinged on the outlandish claim that Powell had, in fact, stabbed herself over a dozen times.
