Robert Greenwood, an Iowa-based pharmacist, has been recognized with the prestigious 2024 Calvin J. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award by the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA). The award was presented during the NCPA’s Annual Convention held in Columbus, Ohio, from October 26-29. This award celebrates Greenwood’s remarkable career and unwavering dedication to advancing the pharmacy profession.

The Calvin J. Anthony Lifetime Achievement Award is named after a prominent figure in the pharmacy world who began his career as an independent community pharmacy owner in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Anthony’s influence extended to serving on various pharmacy organization boards, including his role as president of the National Association of Retail Druggists (now NCPA) from 1993-1994. He also served a five-year term as NCPA’s executive vice president.

Greenwood, a 1977 graduate of Creighton University School of Pharmacy in Omaha, Nebraska, initiated his pharmacy career in Waterloo, Iowa. He is the owner and operator of several Iowa pharmacies: Greenwood Drug Inc., Greenwood Compounding, Osterhaus Pharmacy, and Denver Drug.

Throughout his career, Greenwood has been a staunch advocate for independent community pharmacies. His leadership has been instrumental in various professional organizations, notably serving as NCPA president from 2010-2011. He also held leadership positions within the American Pharmacists Association and the Iowa Pharmacy Association.

Greenwood’s commitment to education is evident in his role as a preceptor for aspiring pharmacists at the University of Iowa and his alma mater, Creighton University School of Pharmacy.

Beyond his pharmacy endeavors, Greenwood has contributed to his community through 12 years of service on the Waterloo City Council. In August 2024, he was appointed to Creighton University’s Board of Trustees. Greenwood and his wife, Chery, have three children.
