Will Levis, the Tennessee Titans’ young quarterback, took over the starting role from veteran Ryan Tannehill midway through the 2023 season. Titans General Manager Ran Carthon recently expressed his confidence in Levis’ development and future potential at the NFL Scouting Combine.
Carthon highlighted Levis’ rapid progress last season. “He spent the early part of the season as the inactive third quarterback,” Carthon stated, according to Pro Football Talk’s Myles Simmons. “But when he got his opportunity to play, he took off and ran with it.” This quick adaptation bodes well for Levis as he enters his second year.
Levis started nine games in 2023, throwing for 1,808 yards, eight touchdowns, and four interceptions. He completed 58.4 percent of his passes, achieving a passer rating of 84.2. A foot injury sidelined him for two of the final three games, but his performance prior to the injury demonstrated his capability. Carthon emphasized the importance of consistency for Levis moving forward. “For Will, it’s about creating that consistency,” Carthon explained. “He had multiple offensive coordinators at Kentucky, rarely experiencing the same offense twice. We want to create that consistency for him in Tennessee, get him comfortable making calls at the line of scrimmage, and owning the offense.”
The Titans drafted Levis in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. While many anticipated Levis eventually succeeding Tannehill, his ascension to the starting role happened sooner than expected. Tannehill’s declining performance opened the door for Levis to showcase his abilities. With a new coaching staff and offensive scheme in place for 2024, Levis will have the opportunity to further develop his skills.
