Prince Louis, the youngest of the Prince and Princess of Wales, celebrated his sixth birthday recently. As is tradition, a new photo of the young prince, taken by his mother Kate, was released by Kensington Palace. The annual birthday portraits of Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis are always eagerly anticipated by Royal watchers around the globe.

This year’s birthday portrait comes just weeks after the Princess of Wales released a photo to reassure the public amidst a period of absence. The Princess is currently undergoing preventative cancer treatment, which was announced last month. Since then, the family have been adjusting to a new routine, explaining the situation to their young children in an age-appropriate way.
While Kensington Palace has not released details of upcoming engagements for the Wales family, it’s clear that Prince William and Princess Kate have their hands full, both on and off camera. Prince Louis, fourth in line to the throne, has become a global favourite thanks to his charming antics at formal royal events.

From his inquisitive nature, questioning renowned broadcaster Sir David Attenborough about his favourite animals, to his demonstrably affectionate nature towards his mother, Prince Louis provides a relatable glimpse into the life of a young royal. Of course, navigating royal protocol isn’t always easy when you’re a six year old prince, leading to many a spontaneous moment.
As the Princess of Wales continues her recovery, the family have requested privacy. However, they were keen to share this new photo of Prince Louis, taken recently at Windsor, reminding everyone that even in the midst of challenging times, there is always a reason to celebrate.
