Adam Scott’s Nosebleed Scare on the Set of Severance

While filming season 2 of the Apple TV+ series Severance, actor Adam Scott suffered a concussion and a subsequent nosebleed that led to a humorous misunderstanding with his co-stars. Worried they might suspect drug use, Scott found himself in the awkward position of having to convince them otherwise.

During a January 22nd appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the 51-year-old actor recounted the incident. He described a persistent nosebleed that wouldn’t stop, despite various attempts to control it. Scott humorously acknowledged the common association between a persistent nosebleed and cocaine use, stating, “when there’s an actor who has a nose that will not stop bleeding, obviously, it’s cocaine, right? We all know this.”

Scott admitted to overcompensating for the situation by making excessive cocaine jokes, hoping to reassure his colleagues that he wasn’t using drugs. However, his efforts seemed to backfire, as he concluded, “But, for sure, by the end of the day, everyone thought it was cocaine.”

The relentless nosebleed eventually forced Scott to seek medical attention at an emergency room in upstate New York. There, he underwent a procedure to cauterize the inside of his nose. Host Seth Meyers shared a photograph taken by director Ben Stiller, capturing Scott during the procedure.

Scott recounted the doctor’s warning about the procedure: “Well yes, but also the more challenging aspect of this will be the extreme feeling of pepper being shoved up your nose.” He confirmed the accuracy of the doctor’s description, adding, “So it did hurt, but then also it did feel like there was just like a pound of pepper. And he’s like, ‘Don’t sneeze. You can’t sneeze!'”

The second season of Severance premiered on Apple TV+ on January 17th, following a highly successful first season. The new season continues the story of Mark Scout (Scott) and his colleagues at Lumon Industries, grappling with the aftermath of the previous season’s dramatic finale.

To promote the new season, Scott and his co-stars, including Britt Lower, Zach Cherry, Tramell Tillman, and Patricia Arquette, participated in a live performance installation at Grand Central Station on January 14th. They recreated a makeshift office space within the bustling train station, immersing themselves in their characters to the delight of onlookers and social media users who captured the event.
