Actor Anthony Hopkins’ Pacific Palisades home was tragically lost in the devastating wildfires that swept through the Los Angeles area in January 2025. Photos obtained by PEOPLE depict the aftermath, revealing only remnants of the structure: scorched concrete pillars, charred wood debris, and a stone pathway amidst lingering smoke.
More than 130,000 residents were forced to evacuate their homes as multiple wildfires rapidly spread across the region. Authorities have described the situation as a “fluid and evolving crisis,” with the death toll yet to be determined. The Pacific Palisades fire, which began on Tuesday, January 7th, 2025, consumed over 11,800 acres and remained uncontained as of Wednesday evening, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Mandatory evacuation orders were issued for residents in the foothills of the Pacific Palisades neighborhood on Tuesday morning.

Following the Pacific Palisades fire, the Eaton Fire (also known as the Close Fire) and the Hurst Fire ignited later that evening. The Woodley Fire erupted early Wednesday, followed by a fifth blaze, the Tyler Fire, west of Los Angeles near Coachella. A sixth fire broke out in the Hollywood Hills on Wednesday night. Numerous other celebrities, including Mandy Moore, Mark Hamill, Kate Beckinsale, Diane Warren, Cary Elwes, and Maria Shriver, have also been impacted by the fires, facing evacuations and property losses.
Hopkins, a Welsh actor who celebrated his 87th birthday on December 31st, 2024, divides his time between the United States and the United Kingdom. He had recently shared a festive Christmas video from his U.K. home on social media, expressing holiday cheer from “jolly old England.” In a 2011 interview with PEOPLE, Hopkins spoke about his passion for painting, inspired by the vibrant colors of the Malibu coastline. The stark contrast to the “gray” landscapes of his native Wales captivated him, describing California as “paradise.”
