Bart Scott: Bengals Lost Their “Heart and Soul”
The Bengals’ Super Bowl run in 2022, led by Burrow and a young, talented roster, now feels distant. The team has regressed, and their playoff hopes for 2024 are uncertain. ESPN analyst Bart Scott, during a discussion on “Get Up,” argued that the Bengals’ decision to release running back Joe Mixon in the offseason has significantly impacted the team.
“Sometimes seasons come down to decisions made and not made,” Scott stated. “And the fact that they let Joe Mixon go is hurting their team. He was the heart and soul of that team, and they haven’t been able to replace him.”
Mixon’s Leadership in Houston
Mixon signed with the Houston Texans, a team with a strong offense but facing challenges due to injuries. With wide receiver Nico Collins spending time on Injured Reserve and Stefon Diggs out for the season with an ACL tear, Mixon’s role has become even more critical.
Beyond his on-field contributions, Mixon has emerged as a leader in Houston. Rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud has praised Mixon for holding teammates accountable as the Texans strive to build a championship-caliber team.
