Good morning from Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, which is currently preparing for one of its most significant events in modern history. The city awaits the arrival of the hearse carrying Queen Elizabeth II, expected to depart from Balmoral Castle as early as tomorrow. The hearse will journey along the historic Royal Mile, a path that stretches from Edinburgh Castle to the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Queen’s official residence in Scotland.

Security preparations in Edinburgh are already underway, with security gates, police presence, and barricades being erected in anticipation of thousands of people lining the streets to pay their respects as the hearse makes its way from Balmoral.
Balmoral held a special place in the Queen’s heart. Many believe it was her favorite among all the royal palaces and castles due to the cherished memories she created there. It was a place where she could connect with nature, her family, horses, and dogs.

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair shared an anecdote that sheds light on the Queen’s fondness for Balmoral. He recounted that when visiting Balmoral, the royal family would personally serve their guests. They would even organize picnics where Prince Philip would barbecue, Queen Elizabeth would serve the food, and the family would handle all the cleaning afterward, ensuring their guests wouldn’t have to lift a finger. These personal touches likely contributed to the Queen’s deep affection for Balmoral, making it the place where she chose to spend her final days. It was also at Balmoral where she carried out her last official duty as Queen, formally accepting the resignation of Boris Johnson and appointing Liz Truss as the new Prime Minister, just two days before her passing.
While not yet confirmed, it is believed that the hearse will depart Balmoral and travel towards the east coast of Scotland before heading south to Edinburgh. Upon arrival in Edinburgh, it is expected to proceed first to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and later to St. Giles’ Cathedral, located just behind me. St. Giles’ Cathedral will mark the first location where the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects to the Queen’s coffin.
