The concept of a “good fight” resonates deeply within Christianity. Ephesians 6:10 encourages us to be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. But what does it truly mean to fight the good fight of faith? It’s not about striving for a victory yet to be won. It’s about standing firm in the victory Jesus Christ has already secured for us. This victory encompasses healing, deliverance, prosperity, and every answer to every prayer we utter. Our role in spiritual warfare is to maintain this victory through faith.
Maintaining Our Victory in Christ
This means recognizing the victories already made available and standing firm in our belief in them. When facing a diagnosis of illness, we don’t fight for healing; we stand in the healing Jesus provided. We declare our healing and maintain our stance in faith, refusing to succumb to defeat. We move from victory to victory, not by striving to attain it, but by living in the reality of the victory we already possess in Christ. This victory manifests in our lives as we maintain our stance in God’s promises.
Embracing Our Identity in Christ
We are not striving to be righteous; we are the righteousness of God in Christ. The enemy may try to convince us otherwise, pointing to past mistakes or suggesting we need to earn righteousness through specific actions. But we must stand firm, declaring our righteous identity and refusing to be swayed. We are growing in the fruit of righteousness, but our foundational identity is secure.
Mastering Our Emotions through Faith
Our emotions are powerful forces designed to move us in specific directions. Negative emotions, often triggered by challenging circumstances, can pull us away from God’s will. We must not allow our circumstances to dictate our emotional state. We have authority over our emotions through Christ. Even in difficult situations, we choose to maintain peace and joy, governed by God’s Word, not our feelings. We refuse to be ruled by fear, anxiety, or despair, choosing instead to stand firm in the victory Christ has won for us.
Standing Firm in the Face of Adversity
The strength of faith enables us to stand firm in the face of adversity.
Even when facing seemingly insurmountable challenges, we don’t waver. Regardless of what the doctor says, the financial report shows, or the circumstances scream, we stand firm in our faith, declaring the victory that is already ours. We don’t allow the enemy to intimidate us or steal our joy. We stand boldly on God’s promises, knowing that no power in heaven or on earth can prevail against us.
The Power of a Parent’s Love
This principle of standing in victory extends to parenting. We train our children in the way they should go, trusting God’s promises. Even when they stray, we don’t lose heart. We stand firm in our love for them, knowing that God is at work in their lives. We must be led by the Holy Spirit in our parenting, allowing love and grace to guide our actions.

Unforgiveness only hurts us, not the person we refuse to forgive. As Christians, we must rise above our human tendencies and choose forgiveness. This doesn’t mean condoning wrong behavior, but it means releasing the bitterness and resentment that can poison our hearts. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can forgive and move forward in love.

We are not trying to become winners; we are winners in Christ. We have already won the battle. Our job is not to strive for victory, but to live in the reality of the victory Christ has already secured. We lift our hands in praise, thanking God for the triumph we have in him. We refuse to allow the enemy to deceive us into thinking we are defeated. We stand firm, knowing that the final victory is ours.

We are all in the midst of a journey, and sometimes we find ourselves in ditches of sin, confusion, depression, or hurt. But even in those moments, we are still victors in Christ. We come to church not to be judged, but to be reminded of the love and grace that are freely offered to us. We are not defined by our struggles, but by the victory we have in Jesus. We choose to stand in that victory, knowing that He will lead us to the full manifestation of His promises. This is not about striving for victory; it is about resting in the finished work of Christ. We labor to enter into His rest, trusting that He is working all things together for our good. This is the good fight of faith: standing firm in the love and victory of Jesus Christ.
