Jonathan Van Ness, the star of Netflix’s “Queer Eye,” recently opened up about his experience with binge eating disorder and how GLP-1 weight-loss medication has helped him manage it. In a candid TikTok video, Van Ness shared his personal journey and emphasized the importance of seeking help for such conditions.
Van Ness acknowledged his history of public weight fluctuations, stating that this time he recognized the need for additional support. He explained that recent personal challenges had led to significant weight gain and a feeling of being unwell. Most importantly, he revealed that his binge eating disorder had become unmanageable.
According to the Mayo Clinic, GLP-1 medications mimic the function of a natural hormone called glucagon-like peptide 1. This hormone stimulates insulin production when blood sugar levels rise after eating, helping to regulate blood sugar. These medications are frequently prescribed to individuals with diabetes.

Van Ness described feeling trapped in a cycle of compulsive eating and subsequent regret, leading to depression and a sense of powerlessness. After consulting with his doctor, they explored various GLP-1 options, ultimately choosing the injectable form of the medication over the pill form. He began the treatment in September and reported feeling a positive impact almost immediately.
For the first time, Van Ness explained, he felt in control of his food intake. He attributed the medication to significantly aiding him in managing his binge eating disorder. He expressed his desire to be transparent about his experience, highlighting the transformative power of seeking professional guidance and support.
