Williams’ musical journey began early on, nurtured by a household filled with diverse sounds ranging from 90s country icons like The Chicks to folk legends like John Denver and Indigo Girls. This eclectic exposure laid the foundation for her own musical tapestry, evident in the rich sonic textures of “Tennessee Moon.”
Her talent was evident from a young age, singing the national anthem at Tampa Bay Rays games and forming an acoustic duo that graced bars around Tampa Bay. While she pursued a degree in public policy at Duke University, music remained a constant pull. Signing with Small Town Records solidified her commitment to songwriting, her lyrics reflecting a depth of emotion, vivid storytelling, and unflinching honesty.
“Southern Curls”: A Breakthrough Moment
Nashville beckoned in 2019, drawing Williams to its vibrant music scene. It was here that she penned “Southern Curls,” a pivotal song that marked a turning point in her artistry. The track poignantly captures her experience as a mixed-race, queer artist navigating the complexities of the South and the music industry.
“That’s when it felt like, ‘Oh, I’ve tapped into who I am as an artist and the type of songwriter I want to be,'” Williams reflects. This newfound clarity resonated deeply, leading to her self-titled 2023 EP and catching the attention of influential platforms like The Black Opry and CMT.

“Tennessee Moon,” the EP’s title track, embodies the bittersweet beauty of fleeting moments. Inspired by a photograph taken at Percy Priest Lake in Nashville, the song captures the fading light of a relationship, mirroring the ephemeral nature of sunsets.
The EP showcases Williams’ growth as a songwriter, collaborating with talents like Melody Walker and Natalie Closner. “Reckless Road” seamlessly blends banjo, pedal steel, and acoustic guitar,evoking the nostalgic charm of 90s country while delving into themes of embracing the unknown.
Finding Community and Championing Authenticity

Connecting with organizations like The Black Opry provided a sense of belonging and opened doors to new opportunities.
“I started playing with Black Opry and then realizing that there were opportunities outside of Nashville, that there were venues and places that wanted to be a part of what Black Opry was building,” Williams shares.
Green Room Conversations: Empowering Women in Music
Beyond her own artistry, Williams actively advocates for change within the music industry. In 2023, she launched Green Room Conversations, an organization dedicated to raising awareness about sexual harassment and creating a safe space for women to navigate the industry’s challenges.
