Food Network star and Kids Baking Championship co-host Kardea Brown recently addressed negative comments about her on-screen demeanor. Brown, 37, shared a screenshot on Instagram of a comment criticizing her laughter, sparking a conversation about unjustified criticism and the importance of positivity.
The comment, which read, “I can’t stand Kardea, the way she is always laughing, it’s stupid,” prompted Brown to respond directly. “Y’all see what I’m saying??? I just be at home minding the business that pays me….. but then there’s people like Miss Debbie who hates me because I laugh too much 🤦🏽♀️,” Brown wrote.
She continued, expressing her disbelief at the negativity. “You have to be some sort of miserable to hate someone for simply laughing. I just thank God for the peace and joy he’s blessed me with. I can only imagine what it feels like to harbor that much hate in your heart. It has to be painful 😞.”
Brown explained that she shared the comment to highlight the challenges public figures face with online criticism. While many advise ignoring negative comments, she emphasized the difficulty of dealing with “unjustified criticism” and its emotional toll. She strives to connect authentically with her audience, making it harder to simply dismiss hurtful remarks.

Brown emphasized her gratitude for her role on Kids Baking Championship, highlighting the positive impact of working with children. “Listen…. I know change is not easy for some folks. But I am SO GRATEFUL to be [a part] of Kids Baking Championship because those kids are a reminder of unconditional love and acceptance!” She noted that children demonstrate resilience, adaptability, and the importance of having fun, qualities she believes the world needs more of.
Brown recently took over hosting duties from Valerie Bertinelli, and she shared a heartwarming encounter with the former host. Bertinelli offered Brown encouragement and expressed confidence in her ability to take on the role. “She did say, ‘The kids are wonderful. The staff is wonderful. You’re going to have a great time. This show is definitely in capable hands.’ That was her exact words,” Brown recalled. Bertinelli assured Brown that the show was “all you,” signifying a supportive transition between the two hosts.
Brown also offered insights into the new season of Kids Baking Championship: Amazing Animals, which features animal-themed baking challenges. She admitted to shedding tears throughout the season, moved by the young contestants’ passion and dedication. “I cried a lot this season,” she confessed, attributing her emotional response to witnessing the children’s desire to excel and the pressure they faced. “That brings me to tears, that they want to do well and they want to impress everyone. It’s a lot, and so it gets me emotional. And plus, I’m a crier anyway.”
New episodes of Kids Baking Championship: Amazing Animals air Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on Food Network.
