Kay McConaughey, affectionately known as “MaMac” by her famous son Matthew McConaughey and his family, recently shared her secrets to a vibrant life at 93. In an interview with Austin Lifestyle, she emphasized the importance of avoiding stress and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

McConaughey believes that stress is a major detriment to longevity. “The biggest thing for me is [I don’t stress],” she stated. She avoids stressful situations by choosing not to get involved in trying to fix everyone’s problems. She listens and offers advice, but doesn’t dwell on it if her advice isn’t taken. “Women think they always have to fix everything, and I don’t think that way,” she explained. “I will help you, but I’m not going to stress over fixing everything.” This mindset allows her to maintain a sense of peace and avoid unnecessary anxiety.

In addition to her stress-free philosophy, McConaughey maintains an active lifestyle with a rigorous Pilates routine four times a week. Her trainer, Nonna Gleyzer, who has also worked with celebrities like Gisele Bündchen and Jennifer Garner, marvels at McConaughey’s strength and stamina. Gleyzer initially hesitated to train someone of McConaughey’s age, but quickly realized her concerns were unfounded. “She’s made so much progress and challenges me more than I’m challenging her,” Gleyzer shared. “Her abs are like a rock. Each session, we do 80-100 different ab exercises. Young people can’t handle it.”

McConaughey’s commitment to healthy living extends to her diet as well. She avoids sweets and primarily consumes seafood and chicken. While she enjoys a glass of Kendall Jackson wine in the evenings, and indulges in red meat when visiting her son’s family, she generally adheres to a clean eating plan. “We never have any sweets in our house, ever,” she affirmed. She credits her father for instilling healthy eating habits in her and her sister, emphasizing the principle, “you are what you eat.”
