The incident unfolded in Independence, Kentucky, a town located just outside of Cincinnati. When officers arrived at the residence shared by Harris and her boyfriend, Tommy Powell, they were met with a startling confession even before they could inquire about Harris’s whereabouts.
“Is Amberly here? Amberly, she passed away,” Powell stated nonchalantly. “What did you do?” an officer questioned, to which Powell responded, “What I can’t – I sh –”
Realizing the gravity of the situation, officers swiftly entered the home, their body cameras documenting every tense moment.

Powell directed the officers to the back of the house, where they discovered Harris’s body lying on the bedroom floor. As backup was called, a sense of urgency filled the air. Officers secured the scene and continued their search, eventually discovering a firearm in the apartment.
The body camera footage, captured from multiple officers’ perspectives, provides a chillingly comprehensive view of the events as they unfolded. While some officers discovered Harris’s body, others apprehended Powell.
Despite the horrific nature of the crime, Powell remained eerily calm and even anticipated his Miranda rights being read.

Later, in a police interview room, Powell provided chilling details of the murder, revealing that he had shot Harris with a 20-gauge shotgun after a fight. He confessed to being in the house with her deceased body for days.
Adding to the sinister nature of the crime, investigators later unearthed a $20,000 life insurance policy taken out on Harris just a month prior, with Powell listed as the beneficiary.
Confronted with overwhelming evidence, Powell pleaded guilty to murder. Last month, he was sentenced to life in prison, bringing a tragic end to a case marked by a chilling confession caught on camera.
