Laverne Cox Leaves E! Red Carpet Hosting for New Comedy Series

After three years as a red carpet host for E!, Laverne Cox, 52, announced her departure to star in the upcoming comedy series, Clean Slate. Cox, a Daytime Emmy winner, shared the news on Instagram, expressing gratitude for her time with the network.

Cox’s Instagram post included a heartfelt message thanking NBCU and E! for their support. She reflected on the “incredible privilege” of interviewing renowned artists, discussing their work and navigating the complexities of success. She also emphasized her excitement for future opportunities as an actress, artist, host, and speaker.

The announcement comes just before the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, where Cox was previously a fixture. Instead, Access Hollywood‘s Zuri Hall and comedian Heather McMahan will host Live from E!: Golden Globes. Cox’s final red carpet appearance for E! will not be at this event.

Cox shared a video montage on Instagram highlighting memorable moments from her three-year tenure. The montage, titled “Legends, Looks and Love,” featured clips from the Oscars, Emmys, Grammys, and other award shows. It included interactions with numerous celebrities like Tracee Ellis Ross, Andrew Garfield, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Cynthia Erivo, Anne Hathaway, Dua Lipa, Kylie Minogue, Colman Domingo, Quinta Brunson, Jessica Chastain, Lady Gaga, Jennifer Aniston, and Kate McKinnon.

The video also included a reunion with Orange Is the New Black costar Danielle Brooks and a touching moment with Baby Reindeer star Nava Mau. Cox became emotional during her interaction with Mau, expressing pride in the younger actress.

Cox’s new comedy series, Clean Slate, premieres on Prime Video on February 6th. The show centers on Harry, a traditional car wash owner in Alabama, played by George Wallace. Harry’s life takes an unexpected turn when his estranged child returns after 17 years as a transgender woman named Desiree, played by Cox. The series explores their reconnection and the relationships within their community. All eight episodes of the first season will be available for streaming.
