Man Arrested for DUI After Multiple Encounters with Police

In a bizarre turn of events, a Connecticut man found himself in handcuffs not once, but twice in the same night, leading to his arrest for driving under the influence (DUI).

The incident unfolded in the early morning hours in Ledyard, Connecticut, when police officers responded to a report of a suspicious vehicle parked in a local park. Upon arrival, officers encountered 49-year-old Robert Fable sitting in his car in a state of undress.

Body camera footage released by the Ledyard Police Department captured the initial encounter between Fable and the officers. When questioned about his alcohol consumption, Fable admitted to having “a lot” to drink. However, he was unable to provide a specific amount.

Despite his intoxicated state, Fable assured the officers that he had not driven to the park and had only been sitting in his car. He initially claimed to have no friends or family in the area who could provide him with a ride home.

The officers, sensing Fable’s intoxicated state and concerned for his well-being, decided to give him a break. They allowed him time to call a ride-sharing service and waited nearby to ensure his safety.

After a while, Fable informed the officers that he had successfully ordered an Uber and was awaiting its arrival.

Believing the situation to be resolved, the officers left the scene.

However, to their surprise, the officers encountered Fable again a short time later, this time driving his vehicle near his home.

The officers pulled Fable over, and body camera footage showed him exiting his car, clearly still intoxicated. This time, the officers placed Fable under arrest for DUI.

Upon further investigation, it was discovered that Fable had driven home after the officers’ initial departure, despite being advised against it and having ordered an Uber.

Fable was transported to the police station, where he was booked for DUI.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol. The Ledyard Police Department urges all individuals to plan ahead and designate a sober driver or utilize ride-sharing services if they plan to consume alcohol.
