Meghan Markle Supports Teen Fire Victims in Los Angeles

Meghan Markle recently made a private visit to the Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery group, offering support to teenagers affected by the devastating Eaton Fire in Los Angeles. The Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry have also contributed to the organization through their Archewell Foundation.

The Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery group, founded by 14-year-old Avery Colvert, aims to provide essential items like beauty products, haircare, clothing, and personal supplies to teen girls displaced by the fire. The Eaton Fire, which started on January 7th, has burned over 14,000 acres and was 45% contained as of January 15th, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

During her visit on January 13th, Meghan brought new clothing, beauty products, and lunch for the volunteers. She spent time with families, assisting girls with shopping and offering support.

A video shared on the group’s Instagram page on January 15th shows Meghan interacting with volunteers and families at a warehouse filled with donated goods. She’s seen wearing a black Los Angeles baseball cap and carrying two full tote bags. The caption expressed gratitude for the support received, especially for the “special day” on Monday. This visit followed Meghan and Prince Harry’s trip to the Pasadena Convention Center on January 10th, where they helped distribute food and supplies to fire victims.

The Duke and Duchess prioritize meaningful engagement during their visits, focusing on direct support and relief efforts without the presence of media personnel.

The Altadena Teen Girls Fire Recovery Group acknowledged the Archewell Foundation’s contribution in a January 14th Instagram post, expressing “special thanks” to the Duke and Duchess’s charity. A representative from the group commented that Meghan’s support and visit were “life-changing.”

Colvert explained that her motivation for starting the group was to help affected girls regain a sense of normalcy and confidence after losing everything. The initiative gained momentum on social media, coinciding with Meghan’s recent return to Instagram. The group held its first shopping day for those in need on Monday.

Meghan, a Los Angeles native, and Prince Harry reside in Montecito, California, with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

In response to the wildfires, the Duke and Duchess opened their home to displaced friends and family. Meghan also postponed the release of her Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, from January 15th to March 4th, citing the need to focus on those affected by the fires. They continue to seek ways to support the community as the wildfires, which have burned over 40,000 acres and resulted in 24 fatalities according to Cal Fire, continue to rage.
