Morgan Freeman celebrated New Year’s Eve with a memorable duet performance alongside legendary soul singer Al Green. The Oscar-winning actor joined Green on stage at Ground Zero Blues Club in Mississippi, co-owned by Freeman himself, to sing Green’s iconic 1971 hit, “Let’s Stay Together.”
The performance, captured in videos shared on social media, shows Freeman and Green harmonizing on the classic song, backed by a band. Freeman, dressed in a white turtleneck and dark jacket, and Green, in a white button-down shirt and patterned blazer, beamed with smiles as they grooved to the music. The duo sang the heartfelt lyrics, “I’m so in love with you / Whatever you want to do / Is alright with me / ‘Cause you make me feel so brand new / And I want to spend my life with you,” to the delight of the audience.
Freeman later shared photos from the evening on X (formerly Twitter), expressing his joy: “We ushered in the New Year with Al Green and Kingfish at Ground Zero last night. Happy New Year, everyone!” CNN’s Omar Jimenez also shared a video on Instagram, reporting that Freeman described the duet as a “dream come true.”

Ground Zero Blues Club, established in 2001 by Freeman and his business partners, aims to honor the region’s rich blues history and provide a platform for its continuation. This New Year’s Eve performance adds another chapter to the venue’s legacy.
Beyond this special appearance, Freeman has kept a relatively low profile in recent months. However, he was seen dining at Giorgio Baldi in Los Angeles in November and has several projects slated for release in 2024. These include roles in the films My Dead Friend Zoe and Gunner, as well as the series Special Ops: Lioness.
Fans can also anticipate seeing Freeman reprise his role in the highly anticipated Now You See Me 3. The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast, including Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Woody Harrelson, Ariana Greenblatt, Lizzy Caplan, Isla Fisher, Rosamund Pike, Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, and Dave Franco.
In September 2024, Freeman presented Clint Eastwood with the inaugural Clint Eastwood Award for Cultural Leadership at the Monterey Jazz Festival. Freeman shared his admiration for Eastwood on Instagram, highlighting Eastwood’s musical talents as a pianist, composer, and jazz enthusiast. He also praised the performances of Kyle Eastwood and Mavis Staples at the festival.
