Bodycam footage released by Michigan police reveals the harrowing rescue of a two-year-old girl from her mother, who was allegedly attempting to drown her. The incident, which unfolded on June 24th in Ypsilanti Township, began when a 15-year-old girl made a frantic 9-1-1 call reporting that her mother had stabbed her sister.
The teenager’s call prompted an immediate response from law enforcement, who arrived at the home within minutes. Bodycam footage captures the chaotic scene as officers rushed into the house, desperately searching for the injured child.

Inside the bathroom, officers discovered a chilling sight: Jessica Deirdre Edward-Ricks was allegedly holding her two-year-old daughter’s head underwater in the bathtub. Officers quickly intervened, pulling the toddler from the water and initiating CPR.

Tragically, the two-year-old had also suffered a stab wound to the chest. After nearly a minute of CPR, the little girl began breathing again, her cries filling the air. Medical personnel arrived shortly after and transported the children to the hospital.
Further investigation revealed a horrifying sequence of events. Edward-Ricks is accused of stabbing three of her children: a two-year-old girl, a four-year-old boy, and a 15-year-old girl. The four-year-old boy was also believed to have ingested cleaning fluid. Thankfully, all three children are now in stable condition.
The two other children present, a 15-year-old girl and an eight-year-old girl, were unharmed. The 15-year-old girl’s quick thinking in calling 9-1-1 is credited with saving her siblings’ lives.
Edward-Ricks is currently in custody, facing a slew of charges including assault, assault with intent to murder, and child neglect. This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of children and the importance of swift action when abuse is suspected.
