Defiance Against Authority: A Case of Assault on Law Enforcement

Nguyen Van Hao, a 32-year-old resident of Ha Tinh Province, found himself on the wrong side of the law after a traffic violation escalated into a physical assault on a traffic police officer. The incident, which took place on September 24th, sparked widespread outrage and prompted swift action from authorities.

Hao was apprehended at a checkpoint on Provincial Road 551 in Ky Anh District for riding a motorbike without a helmet and exhibiting signs of alcohol consumption. Instead of complying with the officers’ instructions, Hao attempted to evade the checkpoint, only to return later and verbally abuse the officers. In a shocking turn of events, Hao physically assaulted one of the officers. Thanks to the intervention of bystanders, the traffic police officers were able to subdue and arrest Hao.

A subsequent breathalyzer test confirmed Hao’s violation, revealing a blood alcohol content of 0.59 mg/L. The Ky Anh District Police Department initiated an investigation, leading to Hao’s indictment and a two-month detention pending further investigation. Debt Collection Tactics Turn Criminal: Two Men Arrested for Property Damage

In a separate incident, two men from Thanh Hoa Province, Pham Duc Hieu (23) and Tran Xuan Dung (21), were detained in Di An City, Binh Duong Province, for their alleged involvement in property damage. The duo had created a Facebook page offering installment loans, and in May 2024, a 43-year-old woman, identified as HT, borrowed a total of 70 million VND from them, agreeing to a hefty 1.238% daily interest rate.

Unable to keep up with the exorbitant interest payments, HT found herself unable to repay the loan. From June 2024 until their arrest, Hieu and Dung resorted to extreme measures to collect their debt. They repeatedly visited HT’s acquaintance’s house in Di An City and vandalized the property with paint, aiming to intimidate HT into repaying the loan.

The Di An City Police apprehended Hieu and Dung, and are currently gathering evidence to prosecute them for property damage and usury. This case highlights the potential dangers of online lending platforms and the severe legal repercussions for employing criminal debt collection tactics.
