Nicole Kidman’s Red Carpet Regret and Favorite Fashion Moments

Nicole Kidman, reflecting on her extensive red carpet history, recently revealed her biggest fashion regret: a gold headdress worn to the 2004 Golden Globe Awards. In an interview with W. Magazine, the 57-year-old actress candidly admitted her mother disapproved of many of her red carpet choices, specifically mentioning the headdress. Kidman jokingly referred to the look as a “train wreck,” acknowledging her fashion misstep.

The ensemble in question featured a plunging gold sequin halter dress with a matching scarf-style headband. The mid-calf length gown included sheer organza details on the bodice, hips, and skirt. Kidman paired the dress with a short, curly hairstyle, allowing face-framing pieces to peek out from beneath the headscarf, further emphasizing the retro vibe.

Despite this regret, Kidman also highlighted some of her favorite red carpet triumphs. She fondly recalled the chartreuse Dior by John Galliano gown worn to the 1997 Oscars. Another cherished look was a Galliano gold gown from the 2000 Oscars, complete with 24-karat gold vintage mesh gloves adorned with gemstones.

Beyond glamorous gowns, Kidman expressed a personal preference for menswear-inspired fashion. She confessed her ideal everyday attire would consist of pants, a tie, a suit, and a jacket. She even recounted her first major fashion purchase: an Alaïa suit, a purchase she now regrets not keeping.

Currently nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in Babygirl, Kidman continues to be a red carpet icon. She revealed she is preserving her impressive collection of red carpet dresses for her daughters, Sunday and Faith, referring to the gowns as “museum pieces” that her daughters are welcome to borrow. While Kidman encourages her daughters to explore her fashion archive, she jokingly noted that the exchange is one-way; she’s not permitted to borrow from their closets.
