Sir Paul McCartney, the legendary Beatles musician, revealed his New Year’s resolution for 2025: to finish a new album. McCartney, 82, shared this news while answering fan questions on his official website on December 21st. He explained that touring commitments for his Got Back tour had put the album on hold, but he’s eager to return to songwriting and complete the project.
McCartney’s Upcoming Album: A Follow-Up to “McCartney III”
“I’ve been working on a lot of songs, and have had to put it to the side because of the tour,” McCartney wrote. “So, I’m hoping to get back into that and finish up a lot of these songs.” He enthusiastically confirmed his resolution, stating, “My New Year’s resolution is to finish a new album!”

This forthcoming album will be McCartney’s first solo release since McCartney III in 2020. McCartney III completed a trilogy that began with his self-titled debut solo album in 1970 and continued with McCartney II in 1980. Following the release of McCartney III, a remix album featuring collaborations with various artists, including Beck, Dominic Fike, and Phoebe Bridgers, was released in 2021.
Holiday Plans and Reflections on Past Album Releases
Beyond his musical endeavors, McCartney shared his plans for a “well-deserved rest” and family time during the holiday season. He expressed his love for Christmas decorations, saying he enjoys “overdoing” them and is looking forward to relaxing and appreciating the festive atmosphere.
McCartney also recounted a story from 2020 involving Taylor Swift and the release of her album Evermore. He revealed that Swift had initially planned to release Evermore on her birthday but changed the date to avoid conflicting with McCartney’s album release.

Swift ultimately released Evermore on December 11th, 2020, a day after surprising fans with the album announcement. She described Evermore as the “sister album” to her critically acclaimed album Folklore, released earlier that year.
