Prince William Skips the Christmas Sweater Tradition

Prince William Skips the Christmas Sweater Tradition

Prince William recently revealed he doesn’t partake in a beloved holiday tradition: wearing a Christmas sweater. The Prince of Wales, 42, confessed his lack of festive knitwear at a Christmas party for the 1st Battalion Mercian Regiment, where he distributed gifts to families and children.

Fourteen-year-old Dylan Potter, sporting two Christmas sweaters, prompted the humorous admission. William, pointing to himself, lightheartedly remarked, “Some people don’t even own one.” When questioned about his own lack of a holiday sweater, the Prince jokingly blamed his new equerry, Squadron Leader Mike Reynolds, saying, “I didn’t know. You see that guy in the jacket? It’s his fault, and I will be having a word.”

Despite his aversion to Christmas sweaters, Prince William joined the royal family for their traditional Christmas festivities at Sandringham. Along with the customary gag gift exchange on Christmas Eve, William, Kate Middleton, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, participated in the annual Christmas Day walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church. The family then gathered to watch King Charles’ Christmas speech.

The Prince of Wales shared that 45 family members, typically spread out, would be together “all in one room” for the holiday. He also revealed his fondness for a long Christmas Day dog walk at Sandringham, a sentiment echoed in a conversation with Leah St. Clair-Lewis of WRVS Services Welfare, a charity supporting British Army members.

The royal family’s love for dogs is well-known, from Queen Elizabeth’s corgis to the Wales family’s black cocker spaniel, Orla. This year’s Christmas walk held a poignant note for Queen Camilla, who recently lost her Jack Russell Terrier, Beth. However, her other Jack Russell, Bluebell, joined the traditional walk on the Sandringham grounds.
