Ron Livingston’s Vintage Suit Collection from Sex and the City

Ron Livingston, known for his role as Jack Berger on Sex and the City, revealed his impressive collection of vintage suits on a recent podcast with Marc Maron. These suits, gifts from his time on the show, are now two decades old but represent a bygone era of high-quality craftsmanship and design. Livingston stated that he hasn’t purchased a suit in 20 years because he can’t find comparable quality at today’s prices. He added that he can afford new suits, but he chooses not to spend the money on them.

He explained that his current lifestyle doesn’t require frequent suit-wearing, reducing the need for new purchases. While re-wearing outfits for public appearances was once considered taboo, Livingston embraces it, believing that at his age, neither he nor others are concerned about it.

Livingston also confessed his aversion to discarding clothes due to the “emotional energy” they hold. He recounted an attempt to purge 50 plaid shirts acquired during a film project. Despite falling out of favor with him, the shirts remain in a pile, untouched for weeks, awaiting some unspoken signal to be kept or discarded.

He humorously described waiting for the shirts to “say something” to him, acknowledging the futility of his decluttering efforts, which often result in reorganization rather than true purging. Livingston’s Sex and the City character is infamous for breaking up with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) with a Post-it note.

His wife, Rosemarie DeWitt, revealed on The Drew Barrymore Show that Livingston faced considerable backlash for the infamous breakup scene. She described how they used to avoid Sex and the City tour groups in the West Village to prevent fans from confronting him about the Post-it note incident. DeWitt recounted how they would often duck into shops to escape angry fans yelling about the way Berger ended his relationship with Carrie.
