Royal Website Glitch Briefly Displays “Hospice” on Homepage

The Royal Family’s official website, Royal.UK, experienced a brief technical hiccup on January 22, 2025, when the word “hospice” appeared unexpectedly as a main heading on the landing page. The error was quickly noticed and rectified by the website’s administrators.

A royal fan blog, Gert’s Royal, first spotted the unusual heading and shared a screenshot on X (formerly Twitter), questioning the reason for the unexpected word choice. The blog later confirmed that the error had been corrected within two hours.

As of January 23, 2025, the Royal.UK website was fully restored to its normal functionality, featuring biographies of Royal Family members, a log of recent engagements, the Court Circular, the Royal Diary, and other resources.

The timing of the glitch coincided with Queen Camilla’s recent visit to Prospect Hospice in Wiltshire on January 21, 2025. The Queen’s visit, commemorating the hospice’s 45th anniversary, was documented on the Royal.UK website. This led to speculation that the “hospice” heading might have been related to a formatting error connected to the Queen’s engagement. The Royal Household at Buckingham Palace manages and maintains the Royal.UK website, ensuring it remains the authoritative source of information regarding the monarchy.

While such errors are uncommon in royal communications, they do occasionally occur. In October 2024, Buckingham Palace issued a corrected statement regarding Princess Beatrice’s pregnancy announcement after an initial post on X contained a typo in her royal title, misspelling “Her Royal Highness” as “Her Royal Highes.”

The corrected announcement conveyed the joyous news of Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi’s expectancy of their second child. The statement confirmed that King Charles and both families were delighted with the news. The upcoming birth will expand the Royal Family, and while the child will be 11th in the line of succession to the British throne, they will likely inherit an Italian title due to Edoardo’s paternal lineage. Edoardo’s father has previously stated that his children would be counts or nobile donna. Princess Beatrice and Edoardo are already parents to daughter Sienna, 3, and Christopher Woolf, 8, Edoardo’s son from a previous relationship.
