LITTLE ROCK (KATV) — A “significant development” will be announced regarding one of Arkansas’s most infamous cold cases—the disappearance of Morgan Nick. The Alma Police Department has scheduled a media briefing for October 1, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. to share critical updates on the ongoing investigation into the 1995 kidnapping.
Background on Morgan Nick’s Disappearance
Morgan Nick was just six years old when she was abducted on June 9, 1995, while playing with friends and chasing fireflies at a ballpark in Alma, only yards away from her mother, Colleen Nick. Despite a massive investigation and relentless efforts from law enforcement, Morgan remains missing.
Colleen Nick has remained steadfast in her commitment to finding her daughter. “Until someone can tell me that Morgan did not survive, then I’m going to fight every day for her to come home,” she told KATV in 2021. She highlighted the unity of Arkansas in the search for Morgan, expressing hope and encouragement.
The Morgan Nick Foundation
In 1996, a year after Morgan’s disappearance, Colleen Nick established the Morgan Nick Foundation. This organization empowers families with missing children by providing support and fostering connections among parents in similar situations.
Colleen believes in the importance of community involvement: “It might be hard to spot a child who’s missing, but it’s not hard for any of us to spot a child in trouble, and what we do with that could change the course of the child’s life,” she stated.
A Message from Colleen Nick
If Colleen could speak directly to Morgan, she would convey this heartfelt message: “Morgan, it’s okay if you forgot about us, or if you’re not sure who you are, but we have never forgotten about you. We are still fighting for you. We have an army of people fighting for you, and we are coming to get you.”
Ongoing Investigations and Developments
Over the years, multiple law enforcement agencies have collaborated to pursue numerous leads in Morgan’s case. Recently, the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office examined a location potentially linked to the kidnapping, but no arrests were made, and no evidence was found.
In 2021, the Federal Bureau of Investigation identified a person of interest, Billy Jack Lincks, a veteran and Arkansas native who died while incarcerated in 2000. Lincks had a history of crimes, including an attempted abduction of an 11-year-old girl near the site of Morgan’s disappearance, prompting authorities to seek tips from the community regarding his life.
The upcoming briefing, where this “significant development” will be announced, will take place in the courtroom of the Alma Police Department.
