Former talk show host Wendy Williams, in her first interview since a Lifetime documentary aired in February 2024, discussed her experience in a treatment facility where she is receiving round-the-clock care. The documentary followed a diagnosis of progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) disclosed by Williams’ team. Williams called into the Breakfast Club radio show to speak with hosts DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God, along with guest host Loren LoRosa, directly from the facility.

A key point of contention raised by Williams was the mandatory daily medication regimen – seven pills – she is required to take without clear explanation. She expressed frustration at not knowing the purpose of the medication and feeling trapped within a system she believes has misrepresented her condition. “Where I am… you have to get keys to unlock the door to press the elevator,” Williams explained, highlighting the restrictive environment. “These people here, everybody is like a nursemaid… They come in and give your pills and then you leave.” She questioned the medical professionals, asking, “‘Excuse me doctor, can you tell me what this pill is for?'” Williams asserted that she’s been entangled in this system for three years.

The context of this situation stems from a 2022 court-ordered guardianship implemented after Wells Fargo froze Williams’ accounts based on claims from her then-financial advisor that she was of “unsound mind.” New York lawyer Sabrina Morrissey was appointed as Williams’ legal guardian. However, Williams’ family has contested both the guardianship and Morrissey’s handling of it. They have voiced concerns about being denied contact with Williams and questioned the accuracy of the cognitive impairment claims. Last summer, the family stated their inability to comment on Williams’ condition and whereabouts due to ongoing legal proceedings and restricted access to her.

Williams’ interview on the Breakfast Club marked the first time she publicly addressed the dementia diagnosis. In November 2023, court filings by Morrissey alleged that Williams had become “cognitively impaired, permanently disabled and legally incapacitated” due to progressing early-onset dementia. Williams refuted these claims during the interview, stating, “Listen, this system is broken, this system that I’m in. This system has falsified a lot.”

Williams’ niece, Alex Finnie, joined the call to criticize the guardianship, describing the restrictions placed on communication. “She can call us but we can’t call her,” Finnie explained. “That’s been the reality since 2023.” Finnie detailed a visit in October, highlighting the intense security and questioning she faced, and expressed concerns about Williams’ living conditions, including lack of sunlight. “That room she is sitting in, she’s there every day, all hours of the day, every week, every month. She’s not getting proper sunlight.” The ongoing dispute between Williams, her family, and her legal guardian continues to raise questions about her care and well-being.
