Xavien Howard to the Texans? Former Dolphins CB Hints at Houston Reunion

Former Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard, a four-time Pro Bowler, remains unsigned weeks into free agency. While he’s been selective about his next team, recent comments suggest a potential reunion with his hometown Houston Texans.

Howard, entering his ninth NFL season, expressed his desire to join the Texans during an appearance on “The OGs Podcast” with former Miami Heat players Udonis Haslem and Mike Miller. “I would love to do that. Especially back at home, the crib,” Howard stated. He even revealed Texans and Rockets tattoos, showcasing his affinity for Houston sports.

While the podcast was filmed before free agency officially began, it offers insight into Howard’s mindset. He emphasized that winning a Super Bowl, not money, is his priority. “I’d rather take a pay cut to go to a team that’s going to go further in the playoffs,” Howard explained. “I got my money… I’m to the point, like, ‘How much money do you really need?'”

This declaration aligns with Howard’s career aspirations. “My goal is always to try to win a Super Bowl,” he affirmed. “Don’t let the money get in the way… Some people get paid, and some people win a Super Bowl. Some people do both. You do both, you’re different. I want to be different. I want to win a Super Bowl now.”

The Texans, coming off a 10-7 season and an AFC South title, reached the Divisional Round of the playoffs before losing to the Baltimore Ravens. Their upward trajectory makes them an attractive destination for a veteran seeking a championship.

Whether Howard’s desire translates into a contract remains to be seen. However, his openness to joining the Texans, coupled with their promising future, creates a compelling narrative for the upcoming season. Only time will tell if this potential pairing becomes a reality.
