Puerto Rican rapper and singer, Young Miko, recently wrapped up her highly anticipated XOXO US tour, building momentum for her upcoming appearance at Billboard Latin Music Week, taking place October 14-18. Billboard had the opportunity to catch up with the rising star at several tour stops, including Philadelphia, Washington, and Boston, gaining insights into her pre-show rituals and excitement for the future.
Pre-Show Rituals and Fan Interactions
During her 18th show in Philadelphia, Miko shared her meticulous pre-show routine, emphasizing a holistic approach to preparing for her electrifying performances.
“Before I hit the stage, I do a bunch of things, maybe not that many. I have my vocal warm-up process, I stretch, I use my inhaler, I have my glam and makeup process, I have my soundcheck, I have a soundcheck with fans, and then I get here and do a pre-show workout where I stretch more,” she explained to Billboard. “And I enter game mode, put on my headphones, listen to a little music. And really, when I open my eyes, it’s showtime.”
Known for her bold fashion choices, Miko teased her Philadelphia audience with an exclusive reveal of her outfit for the night. “Let me show you what I’m going to wear for the Philly show: a little yellow uniform, I haven’t used it yet. Philly will have the exclusive first look,” she shared.
As the tour progressed to Boston, Miko’s enthusiasm remained palpable, particularly when describing a special pre-show interaction with her fans during soundcheck. “I’m waiting for them to come in. I hide here behind the curtain, and they don’t see me and I start [to make] ‘booaah’ and they get very excited,” she revealed. “I come out and talk to them for a little while.”
Navigating the Physical Demands of Touring
The current Billboard cover star also addressed the physical challenges of consecutive performances, acknowledging the need to adapt her routine to conserve energy and protect her voice. “The first set is when I always give the most, and then on the third one, that’s when I kind of cool down a little bit because I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I need my voice,'” she admitted.
